Today a close family friend was in the area of this bank. A black man he is, and what I'm getting ready to describe is common but still unacceptable in the United States of America. The subject matter entered the bank to actually dispose of trash that he did not want to leave in the street. As that is littering and I assume he didn't want to do such. Upon, entering the bank all of the women who were working at the bank gave off the persona that they perhaps felt threatened. Not sure the nationality of these women however I don't feel it's relevant. Immediately they asked the subject what he needed, but not in a friendly manner. Once he communicated that he simply wanted to dispose of trash because there were no visible trash receptacles outdoors in the vicinity of the bank. The employees then told him he needed to leave the bank. I have tried to understand how any person feels comfortable, contacting the authorities and blatantly conveying the untruth. It is unclear why the employees felt threatened, but when placing the call to the Montgomery County police added the subject matter was in possession of a knife. The subject matter left the bank when asked and it is clear that the employees felt uneasy as they locked the bank door behind the subject matter. The police arrived quickly: the first officer on the scene went inside to speak with the employees and he too locked the bank door behind him. While the subject matter remained outside to explain his version of the situation 3 more Police cruisers showed up. I believe it was 3 male officers and 1 female officer. This is where the story or sequence of events get really crazy. The officers pulled up, and proceeded to apprehending the subject however their weapons were drawn. We have seen countless incidents of this that end in death unnecessarily. Meanwhile, the employees are recording this with their phones, taken multiple photos of the subject matter, engaging in the situation in the fashion of juveniles. The subject matter is ordered to lay on the ground and place his hands behind his back. In which the subject complied, however the weapons were still drawn. At this point as a reader of this you should be questioning how all of this stimulated from one wanting to discard trash in a trash receptacle opposed to littering. The only officer that approached and treated the subject matter fairly was the female officer. There were comments made by the other officers that the subject matter is lucky he could have a bullet in him. Totally unprofessional conversation for a Police Officer to communicate to a individual that did not pose a threat that did not have ANY weapons in their possession. And who complied even with knowing they had done nothing wrong. Whomever the employee was who placed the call, placed the call in poor taste and with no integrity, and should be held accountable. The subject matter felt degraded, humiliated, and threatened. Not sure what principles and values the Sona Bank stands on but the employees in place at this location clearly don't believe nor adhere to such. The subject matter was stereotyped immediately. How did the employees know the man did not have an account or was not an potential client, how did they know? There was never any communication about such so it leaves me to believe it was all assumptions'. I, will be sure to convey this story to any and all people that may or may not bank with Sona because I feel people deserve to know the true of any business they affiliate themselves with. Employees that lack integrity certainly aren't to be trusted with ones' financials. It is clear that they do not welcome ALL people and that they possibly only wish to do business with a certain people. Again, this was a horrible experience that will not be forgotten. A legal team may be put in place: if not for the employees lack of truth when placing the call to the authorities and lack of customer service. The subject matter would have not endured many violations as an American Citizen in the United States of America. Ask yourself, does desiring to discard trash in a trash receptacle warrant possible death?
