ATMs stand for automated teller machines. ATMs are an electronic device that enables tapping into the financial system by an input device (usually a card).

ATMs are known by a variety of names. These include: ATM machine, cash machine, minibank, hole in the wall, automated banking machine, cash point, cashline, nibank, tyme machine, cash dispenser, bankomat or bancomat.

In the Asia-Pacific region, ATM usage has not taken off as the advent of mobile banking and electronic banking has superceded ATM usage.
