ATMs stand for automated teller machines. ATMs are an electronic device that enables tapping into the financial system by an input device (usually a card).

ATMs are known by a variety of names. These include: ATM machine, cash machine, minibank, hole in the wall, automated banking machine, cash point, cashline, nibank, tyme machine, cash dispenser, bankomat or bancomat.

There are about 3.5 million ATMs available world-wide, but the number differs across regions. In the Asia-Pacific region, ATM usage has not taken off as the advent of mobile banking and electronic banking has superceded ATM usage.
